Stream Changes

Following on from our Network upgrades earlier this week we have made some changes to our streaming (although these will not affect the majority of you).

128k Mp3 Stereo (most popular): remains the same for the time being.

128k Mp3 Stereo (Internet Radio Dataabase): has been upgraded to 192k

64k AAC: has been replaced by a 64k MONO Mp3 stream as hardly anyone uses the AAC any more!
This 64k Mp3 stream will be added to our mobile friendly player in due course (AAC wasn’t compatible)

256k Mp3 Stereo has been removed
The HQ super quality 320k (48 kHz) stream is back but only available to Members.

This concludes our interim changes. Later this year, the major change to the 128k stereo stream will occur when it is upgraded to SHOUTcast 2.

Ludovico Einaudi album “Elements” added to Feature Playlist

Many of our regular listeners will already know that we played the single from the new Ludovico Einaudi album “Elements” at the tail end of last year. We have finally got around to adding a few more tracks from this new release – making it one of our current feature albums.

Einaudi

Ludovico Einaudi is an Italian pianist and composer born in 1955. He trained at the Conservatorio Verdi in Milan. He began his career as a classical composer, and soon began incorporating other styles and genres—including pop, rock, world music, and folk music. Einaudi has also composed the scores for a number of films and trailers, including The Intouchables and I’m Still Here, the TV miniseries Doctor Zhivago, and Acquario in 1996, for which he won the Grolla d’oro for best soundtrack. He has also released a number of solo albums of piano and orchestra.

Jordan Rudess Album added to Playlist

JordanRudess

Here’s another hidden gem we have added to The Ice Stream Album List by Jordan Rudess. He is an American keyboardist and composer best known as a member of the progressive metal / rock band Dream Theater and the progressive rock supergroup Liquid Tension Experiment.

Not the type of musician you might automatically expect to find on The Ice Stream. However, like his counterparts Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson, he likes to dabble into other genres other than the one he is best known for championing!

This is essentially a “covers” album and we have added five tracks including beautiful renditions of “As Tears Goes By” and “The Sound of Silence”.

New Requests Gizmo

The new Ice Stream is moving on apace. The main site is pretty much completed at theicestream.net and we are currently building out the new members area! Have you tried out our new gizmo yet? Now you can pick your own songs (up to 3 per day) using our new automated feature.

Search through our database of over 3,000 chilled tunes. When you have found the track you are looking for, click on the green “plus” symbol. A new dialogue will appear asking you if you are sure you want to do this, click on “Yes I Am” and you are done. The next dialogue will show that “your request has been successfully placed”.

So why not let the cool be your cool?

Nobex Radio Apps For The Ice Stream

The new “simpler” Nobex radio apps are now available for the Ice Stream. These apps vary from our other more complex apps in that they are very simple to use with less options. Many listeners will find these easier to use and there is a Blackberry version (not available elsewhere) plus we get a small fee for every click on the advertisements displayed which all help towards our running costs.

Great News For Blackberry Users

Nobex

In our continued quest for world domination, we have now joined the Nobex Radio system which means you can now hear The Ice Stream on Blackberry mobiles for the very first time!

Click on their logo above to go to their site and search to find us on your Blackberry.

We are hoping to get dedicated apps for the Blackberry in due course . . . in the meantime this is still another landmark reached!

New Product In The Ice Stream Shop

NewTX-Mask

Replacement for our USB transmitter (which is difficult to source at the moment and currently out of stock), this is an excellent alternative. Will transmit on a frequency of your choice on FM (87.5 to 108) via a 3.5mm jack. It also comes with a USB charger lead so can run off a PC with an audio jack close to an earphone jack and is designed so that it can also double up to plug into your mobile phone and run for approximately 2 hours without charging. The best news is that it is even cheaper than the earlier model we sold!
